Why We Don't Want Your Money

Updated: Jun 25, 2019

Why do we say, "We don't want your money?"

We don't want your money for a number of reasons, chief of which is that your money should go to serving Veterans in your area. We are not suggesting that national organizations that seek donations are not worthy. However, it just seems to us that if you are donating money to support Veterans:

"Wouldn't you prefer to see 100% of those funds used locally to serve local Veterans in need?"

It is this simple belief that leads us to suggest that your donations be used to support local VA Medical Center programs for homeless Veterans. These donations can be monetary. They can also be purchased items such as basic household essentials to support Veterans exiting homelessness. They could be microwavable meals for a food pantry. All will be used to support Veterans in your area.

While we don't know how a monthly donation of $19.95 per month to a national organization will be used it can be assumed that from 10-15% is used for overhead. The balance could go anywhere. If you took that same $19.95 and placed monthly orders through Amazon or Walmart for a 12 pack of Dinty Moore Microwavable Stew to be shipped to your local VA you would be providing a meal to 12 Veterans every month...or 144 per year!

Imagine if there were 20 such donations every month from your community.

How many more could be served?

Of course you can conduct larger collection drives. Who We Serve has developed, in partnership with various VA facilities, a list of the most common items needed. These drives are great community or church projects and can even be conducted to help scouts earn their Eagle badge.

The final reason we won't take donations is that Who We Serve is not a 501(c)3. Rather we are a group of concerned individuals from different parts of the country with the purpose of creating awareness to issues and needs that not only affect our nation's Veterans but our communities as well. While there are many great national organizations we believe that nothing will replace direct involvement at the local level to solve local problems.

We hope you agree.

If you want to learn more about how to work with you local VA facility send us an email. We'll provide you with the right contacts. From there it's up to you.
